EV Charging Station Connections
Renfrew Hydro is committed to supporting the transition to electric vehicles and recognizes the increasing need for reliable EV charging infrastructure. We’re here to help businesses, property managers, and organizations provide convenient and accessible charging solutions.
Our straightforward process makes it easy to connect non-residential EV charging stations to Renfrew Hydro’s local distribution system.
Am I Eligible?
The Electric Vehicle Charging Connection Procedures (EVCCP) apply to Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) connections for non-residential customers. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations
- Public DC fast chargers in locations like retail areas or service centers
- Charging stations for multi-unit residential or commercial buildings, where the EV chargers are owned or operated by the building owner or a third-party charging provider
- Commercial EV fleet charging
These procedures are designed to support larger installations that serve multiple vehicles or users.

What Does the Connection Process Look Like?
Step 1: Submit a Preliminary Consultation Information Request Form (Optional)
Provide us with initial information about your EV charging project. The preliminary consultation request is optional and intended to determine high-level connection feasibility for those who are unsure about site selection or commitment to EVSE installations.
You may proceed directly to Step 3 if you do not need to evaluate different site options.

Step 2: Receive a Feasibility Assessment
Renfrew Hydro will respond to your request within 15 calendar days from the date you submitted your request.
You will receive a report that will outline Renfrew Hydro’s preliminary connection feasibility assessment for the proposed EVSE project.

Step 4: Application Review
Your application will be reviewed by Renfrew Hydro for completeness. We will notify you within 15 calendar days if additional information is required.
Step 5: Offer to Connect (OTC)
Once your application is approved, you’ll receive an official Offer to Connect (OTC) within 60 days, confirming that your EV charging project can move forward.
Step 6: Project Development, Construction and Energization
The customer will develop and construct the EV installation. If required, Renfrew will perform the necessary modifications to our distribution system to accommodate the connection. Once both parties complete all of the required work and a connection authorization from the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is received, Renfrew Hydro will connect the project.
